In 1699 Yusef, along with his three brothers (Eskandar, Francis, and Abdulla) , left Firzel, a town in the area of Ba’albek, to Mashghara, which is a town in the western Beqaa Valley of Lebanon. In the year 1700, all his brothers moved to Zahle, Lebanon, while Yusef remained in Mashghara and worked as a saddle-maker (which is srouji in Arabic). Thus he changed his name from Faro`n to Srouji according to his profession. Reason for changing his name was fear for his life!
