More Info
(1943 - 1995) Daoud was the third born to his parents who had 4 boys. He was 4 years old when they left Palestine. Time was difficult in Lebanon and his parents had to make choices. Daoud was sent to a daily school provided by the United nations for the Palestinian refugees. Therefore he received a mediocre education compared to his siblings. In the mid 1960s he went to Diesel mechanic school and obtained a job with Caterpillar working on their heavy equipment. It was hard and dirty work. The American University in Beirut had an opening for a scientific glass blower. He applied for the position and was hired. Then the University sent him to Holland for 6 months to get his training. He returned to Lebanon and worked at A.U.B. until the end of 1975 when the war broke in Lebanon. People were fleeing the country by the thousands either by air or by sea. Daoud left his wife and daughter, Noline, behind and was able to escape on a Pan Am flight to the United States. He needed to find a job and shelter before he can bring his family. His brother Michael was able to obtain a job for him with the furniture company that he worked for. Then with the help of United States senator Harry Byrd of Virginia, whom Michael knew personally, he was able to change his 90 days visitor visa to a permanent residence visa. A year later his wife and daughter were able to join him. Daoud's death was from a brain aneurysm. He suffered from terrible headache all day. When he was transported to the hospital, an MRI showed a large aneurysm on his brain. They operated the next day but he did not survive the operation. After his death, his body was cremated and his ashes are buried in the Catholic cemetery in Toledo, Ohio.
